Ankit Agrawal is a Delhi based ‘occasional’ writer and award-winning photographer with interest in development, human rights, people’s movement, arts and culture, literature and politics. He has a BA (Hons.) in Political Science and a Post Graduate Diploma in Conflict Management and Development from the Banaras Hindu University in Banaras, followed by a Post Graduate Diploma in Journalism from the Asian College of Journalism, Madras.

Currently, he is learning Dhrupad under Ustad Faiyaz Wasifuddin Dagar, a 20th generation singer of illustrious Dagar family and a direct descendant of Baba Haridas Dagar, Tansen’s teacher.

He also took film-stills of Rebel Music, MTV’s six part series which looked into the lives of young people who are using arts and music to ignite the change around the world. In the process, he also assisted Academy Award winning Director, Producer, and Cinematographer Ross Kauffman in the series.

His writing and photographs have appeared in prestigious publications like BBC Hindi, Fountain Ink, The Hindu, Hindustan Times, Mint, The Wall Street Journal, Nandan, The Hindu Centre for Politics and Public Policy, The Wire, Tehelka, among others. His clients also include Greenpeace India, DLF Emporio, World Resources Institute.

Awards:

Neel Dongre Award for Excellence in Photography (2016-17) to document the process of tanpura making in Miraj (Maharashtra). This is part of a larger personal project he is actively involved in. These photos were exhibited in New Delhi in April, 2017. A review of the same along with the photo-feature can be seen here.

He was invited to participate in the Seventh Assembly of World Youth Movement for Democracy at Lima, Peru in October 2012.
